GURUGRAM: Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav on Wednesday issued formal orders for the demolition of a highrise building at Chintels Paradiso, where two residents were killed on February 10 this year in a vertical collapse of five living rooms floors.
Yadav, who also heads the District Disaster Management Authority, also issued orders for permanent closure of the 18-storey Tower D, which was evacuated after the tragedy. Yadav said in his order he had approved the demolition based on the report of the government committee that probed the cave-in.
The deputy commissioner also directed the developer to settle the claims of flat owners within 60 days. District town planner (enforcement) Amit Madholia has been appointed nodal officer for the demolition process. He will work in coordination with police, Yadav said.
The committee submitted its report on November 8. Disclosing the findings of an IIT-Delhi structural audit that the state government had commissioned, Yadav had last week said the tower was beyond repair.
“In exercise of powers vested in me by the virtue of section 144 of code of the Criminal Procedure Code 1973 and Section 34 of Disaster Management Act 2005, I order Chintels India to close tower D permanently and start the process of demolition of the tower immediately,” the order said.
A spokesperson for the developer said, “We are cooperating with the government authorities and affected residents and will continue to do so.”
