Vadodara: The Vadodara (rural) police have seized liquor worth Rs 60 lakh in two different operations that were conducted in Karjan and Manjusar areas on Tuesday night. The local crime branch (LCB) rural sleuths arrested three persons who were ferrying the liquor.
The police said that with assembly polls around the corner, liquor ferrying is expected to increase in the region. They have been patrolling the highways and keeping an eye on suspicious vehicles.
On Tuesday evening, the LCB got a tip-off that a container ferrying liquor will pass from Manjusar following which they kept a watch on the stretch and intercepted a vehicle. The cops questioned the driver who identified himself as Dharampal Gurjar, a resident of
Rajasthan.
Upon checking the vehicle, the police team found 13,080 bottles of liquor worth Rs 23 lakh. Gurjar told the cops that he got the liquor stock from Maharashtra and he was instructed to take it to Ahmedabad.
In another operation, the LCB seized liquor stock worth Rs 37 lakh from a tempo in Karjan taluka on Tuesday evening.
Cops said that they had received information that a tempo carrying liquor is headed to Vadodara from Bharuch. They intercepted the vehicle and seized 9,264 bottles worth Rs 37 lakh from it. Two persons identified as Aindaram Jaat and Visansinh Rajput, both residents of Rajasthan were arrested, said the police.
