Call centre disguised as medical shop busted for duping over 1,700 people

The Delhi police busted a call centre operating out of an office in Dwarka and arrested 12 people for allegedly cheating more than 1,700 persons of around Rs 2-5 crore by impersonating a loan agency app. According to the police, the accused were disguising their office as a medical store to evade police.

The police sent a team to Delhi’s Uttar Nagar after receiving information about an illegal call centre being operated there. Initially, one of the accused, a man named Faisal, misled the police by claiming that the employees were marketing medicines. He pointed out a few medicine boxes as proof.

Later, however, the police found that the accused were working as customer care support and were offering loans to people. Harsha Vardhan, DCP (Dwarka) said, “It was revealed that the accused were taking bank account details of the people and also asked for money as a fee for loans. They were not providing loans but were cheating their customers. Another main accused, Paras, who leased the place and was running it as an illegal call centre, is absconding.” Read more.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib: How a 17th century palace turned to be a holy place for the Sikhs

As Sikhs across the globe celebrated Gurpurab Tuesday marking the birthday of their founder guru Guru Nanak Dev, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib located in Delhi’s busy Connaught Place continues to be one of the most famous Sikh sacred spots in India.

Built in the 17th century, the marble shrine with its golden dome, topped with the iconic flagpole known as Nishan Sahib, was first owned by a Hindu Rajput ruler Raja Jai Singh. It was then known as Jaisinghpura Palace.

In 1664, the palace had a young but esteemed visitor – the eighth Sikh Guru, Har Krishan – at a time when there were smallpox and cholera outbreaks in Delhi, “He was only a boy then and was also known as Bal Guru (child guru),” said conservation architect Gurmeet Rai, “Bal Guru had a huge following given the piety of the first five gurus and the Mughal resistance by the Sixth Guru,” Rai said.
