Racket selling fake ghee online busted

Surat: Police raided a duplicate ghee-making unit at Kudsad village of Surat district on Tuesday and recovered materials worth Rs 14 lakh. Police also arrested racketeer Mehul Patel for allegedly running the clandestine operation of selling a spurious concoction of pure ghee, palm oil and vegetable fat labelled as pure cow ghee. Patel sold the fake ghee through online platforms.
Following specific information, the police raided Patel’s cattle shed and discovered the unit where he employed people to mix and pack the duplicate ghee. The accused was selling the fake product under the label of Kamdhenu Pure Cow Ghee.
Cops got the fake product tested through the food and drug department. Probe revealed that Patel had bought vegetable ghee in bulk from a manufacturing unit and stored it at his place.
To make the duplicate ghee he mixed this vegetable ghee with palm oil and pure ghee made from the butter of his cattle farm.
