5 of Cong leader’s security staff suspended for negligence
Ludhiana: Even as police officials are on their toes to provide security to leaders who have been getting repeated death threats, five police personnel deputed for the security of a Congress leader were suspended for dereliction of duty. They were absent from duty without permission or even intimation.
Police commissioner Kaustubh Sharma said that the five police officials deputed for the security of Congress leader Gursimran Singh Mand of Ludhiana’s Sarabha Nagar Extension area were suspected of negligence on duty.
Mand, who is national joint coordinator of All India Congress Committee (Kisan Congress) has been receiving death threats for a long time. Recently, after the killing of Amritsar-based Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri, a Pakistan based pro-Khalistani leader Gopal Singh Chawla released a video in which he said that the the next target for them would be Gursimran Singh Mand and Ludhiana-based Hindu outfit leader Amit Arora.
For the past few days, Mand has been receiving calls and messages from international WhatsApp numbers issuing death threats. The callers have been claiming to be from Khalistani outfits and aides of dreaded gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar.
“Two days back the joint commissioner of police, rural Ravcharan Singh Brar visited me and gave me a bullet-proof jacket. During his sudden visit, five of my gunmen were absent. Finding them negligent on duty, Ludhiana Police suspended them. That day, someone had to visit his house in the village and someone had to attend a marriage function,” Mand said.
Mand said that the city police had assured to replacements for the five security personnel who were suspended. Police commissioner Kaustubh Sharma said that a report had been sought.
