UDUPI/CHITRADURGA: After initially defending Murugha mutt pontiff Shivamurthy Swami, arrested for the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls recently, former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday said the influential Lingayat seer from Chitradurga has committed an "unforgivable offence".
"The whole world knows that he has committed an unforgivable offence. Nobody expected he would stoop low. Everyone should condemn this and he should get stringent punishment," he said.
On August 26, a case was filed against the seer under the Pocso Act by a child protection officer on behalf of the two minor girls, who were allegedly sexually assaulted by him. Yediyurappa had said, "It is a false charge. After completion of the probe, he will come out clean."
The former CM's condemnation came a day after police filed a chargesheet. Chitradurga SP K Parashurama claimed they have enough evidence against the accused Lingayat seer. He said police have managed to establish the facilitating role played by a woman hostel warden.
