Morbi, Rajkot collectors yet to furnish documents
Rajkot: Morbi police are yet to receive necessary documents from the collector office with regard to the October 30 suspension bridge collapse that killed 135 people and injured many more.
According to police officials investigating the case, Morbi municipality has given them the required documents while documents sought from Morbi collector and Rajkot collector are still pending, despite several reminders.
The prosecution on Saturday had submitted before the magisterial court that they have asked for the documents pertaining to the contract and meeting minutes with Oreva in 2007 and 2022 from the Morbi collector and Rajkot collector office, while arguing for the remand of the accused.
Morbi was a part of the Rajkot district in 2007 and the documents pertaining to the consultation in 2007 about the maintenance contract of the suspension bridge are with Rajkot collector office.
The police on Saturday had submitted to the court that they have asked the government agencies to provide documents within 24 hours vide a letter it sent on Friday. However, till Tuesday the investigation officer did not receive any documents.
The magisterial court had rejected further remand of two accused, and the prosecution filed revision application against this rejection in a higher forum. A hearing on this application is likely to take place on Wednesday.
The police, which have made no significant progress in the investigation since the tragedy, are still awaiting the forensic report, said sources.
