Car blast case: 6 remanded in judicial custody
Coimbatore: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday produced all the six people who were arrested in connection with the car blast case in front of Sangameswarar temple at Kottaimedu here before the special court for NIA cases at Poonamallee in Chennai. The court remanded them in judicial custody till November 22. The six would now be taken back to the Coimbatore Central Prison on Wednesday.
NIA officials said they were planning to take the six - Mohammed Azarudheen, 27, Mohammed Talha, 25, Mohammad Riyas, 27, Firoz Ismail, 27, and Mohammad Nawaz Ismail, 27, of Ukkadam, and Afsar Khan, 28, of Vincent Road in the city - under their custody for further investigation.
Earlier, the NIA had obtained prisoner transit warrants from the special court for NIA cases and taken the six, who were lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison, to Chennai on Monday with the help of the city armed reserve. After the court proceedings on Tuesday, they were lodged in the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai.
According to an official source, prison authorities have advised police to escort the six to the city central prison.
