Varanasi: Cops bury body found in Varuna river, exhume later

VARANASI: In a major irregularity, the Lohta police on Sunday morning buried a body, which was found floating in Varuna river near Koirajpur bridge, on the river banks without following the prescribed legal procedures.
When the matter came to the notice of senior officials, they directed the cops to exhume the body in the night to conduct the procedures. SP Varanasi rural district Suryakant Tripathi said the body was exhumed and sent for post-mortem while efforts were also being made to ascertain the identity.
Police said on Sunday morning, a partially decomposed body was found floating in Varuna river near Lohrapur village. On reaching the spot, Lohta cops ensured burying of the body on the river banks in the presence of locals.Later, senior officials directed the Lohta cops to exhume the body to complete the process.
