Maharani Science College to hold classes at arts college

Maharani Science College to hold classes at arts college
Mysuru: As a solution for the space constraint to hold classes and practical classes (labs) for Maharani’s Science College students, the department of collegiate education (DCE) has proposed to conduct classes at the Maharani’s Arts College for Women, which is in the same campus between 8am and 10am.
The department has directed the arts college administration to spare classrooms for science college students for two hours in a day.
Following the damage to the college building on October 20, classes of Maharani’s Science College are being conducted in the newly constructed building where not enough classrooms are available.
Although the DCE has directed the Arts college to space its classrooms for two hours each day, no permanent solution is in sight for the space constraint faced by this century old women’s science college.
“Once the DCE order is implemented, we will start classes in the morning batch for our students between 8am and 10am at the Arts college classrooms,” said science college principal D Ravi.
According to authorities, presently 3,850 students are studying in the science college. As many as seven post graduate courses and 20 subjects are taught in this college. This college building is housing 35 functional labs.
As both the colleges are very close, students, and teaching staff are unlikely to face any problems under this new arrangement. “For science college students, regular classes start at 8am only. So, these classes in shifts will not cause them any problem,” said officials.
Meanwhile, the demand for space at KSOU buildings near UoM campus for the science college students has been dropped citing logistical reasons. According to the authorities, around 80% of the students of the science college are from rural background. “Both science and arts colleges are well connected to the city and suburban bus stands. However, KSOU campus is far away,” said college sources.
