UDUPI: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai sought an apology from Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Satish Jarkiholi for the controversial statement made by the latter on the word 'Hindu'.
Bommai said that the statement of the Congress leader was inexcusable, and he must apologise to the people of India.

The CM told reporters at the helipad in Adi Udupi on Tuesday that hurting the faith of people in the nation is sedition.
“The mentality that one can speak anything even without knowledge to woo minority votes is improper. It (Jarkiholi’s statement) has the indirect consent of Congress. He is under the wrong impression of securing minority votes while making such statements. The Congress should condemn this," the CM said and sought the response of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah.
“Why are Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah, who raise their voices even for silly issues, silent now? Their silence is an indication of their consent to the statement of Jarkiholi. Congress does not raise its voice when the sentiments of the majority are hurt. It is heinous that Jarkiholi is still justifying his statements. If Congress does not immediately apologise and regret, they will lose their tiny existence in the nation. People will show the Congress its place,” Bommai asserted, adding that the time is ripe to prevent leaders of political parties from making statements hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Meanwhile, minister for Kannada and culture, V Sunil Kumar has called upon the youth to take to the streets to oppose Jarkiholi’s statement and condemn the same on social media.
