Mangaluru: The state government has handed over the probe into the death of Dalit leader P Deekaiah to the CID. Deekaiah had suffered head injuries after collapsing, while he was alone in his house on July 6.
He died in a private hospital in Manipal on July 8. The last rites of Deekaiah were held the next day, at his hometown, Poyya in Kaniyoor.
Deekaiah’s family members had raised doubts over his death, and his brother-in-law Padmanabha had filed a complaint at the Belthangady police station on July 15, and demanded a probe into his death. Accordingly, the body was exhumed by a team of experts from Wenlock District Hospital, in the presence of the tahsildar.
The Belthangady police had launched an investigation into the death case. The family had alleged that the investigation was not conducted properly, and had demanded for a CID probe. Accordingly, the state government has handed over the case to the CID.
