Prayagraj: Fake currency worth Rs 1.95 lakh seized, 2 held

PRAYAGRAJ: A team of Prayagraj unit of special task force (STF) on Monday arrested two men with fake currency notes worth Rs 1.95 lakh. Those arrested were identified as Umashankar Bind and Ram Babu Bind of Manda and Mirzapur respectively. The duo was arrested near Manda road trisection while they were planning to pump the fake note in markets.
Police have also seized three mobiles, two bikes, one Aadhaar card and Rs 330 cash from their possession. Police said Bind, who was lodged in Naini Central Jail on charges of murder in his village in 1996, came in contact with a notorious mafia involved in circulating fake currency in India through Indo-Bangaldesh border.
After getting bail in April 22, he recoonected with the same mafia. He went to West Bengal in July to meet one Subhash Mandal and returned back with fake currency amounting to Rs 50,000. He then pumped the counterfeit currency in local markets.
Bind again went to WB in August and brought back fake currency amounting to Rs 1 lakh. He also engaged his cousin in the trade. Bind visited WB on November 2 and returned with fake currency worth about Rs 2 lakh. However, this time he along with his cousin were arrested.
