SALEM: DGP C Sylendra Babu said the number of murder cases has reduced by 42% in 2022 when compared with 2021 in Salem city.
Sylendra Babu chaired a meeting with the Salem range police officers at the police commissioner's office in the city on Monday.
"The number of murder cases was 24 cases in 2021. It is 14 in 2022," the DGP said while speaking to reporters. Similarly, the number of murder cases has reduced by 15% in the Salem range, which includes Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. "147 murder cases were registered across the range in 2021. Only 125 cases have been registered this year," he added.
Police are closely monitoring and nabbing ganja peddlers and people selling illegal lottery tickets in the state.
Recently, 120 villages across the Salem range have been declared as 'narcotic-free' villages. The DGP hoped that the rest of the villages too would be declared as 'narcotic-free' soon.
Earlier, the DGP inspected 180 sovereigns of gold jewelleries, 15 kg of silver ornaments, Rs 70 lakh cash, 124 two-wheelers, four cars, 175 mobile phones, and 203 country-made guns that were recovered from the accused in the region.
