PATNA: Bike-borne criminals gunned down a former BJP district board member Sanjeev Mishra (55) near his house in Katihar district on Monday morning. Irate locals blocked the main road in protest and vandalized the vehicles and the Telta police outpost.
The incident took place near Telta High School Mor in Balrampur under Telta police outpost area. Hearing gunshots, the locals reached the spot and rushed him to the primary health centre where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Police suspect the incident was a fallout of political rivalry. "The statements of his family members will be recorded to initiate further probe in the case," a police officer said. About a year ago, Mishra had survived a deadly attack and sustained bullet injury in his chest.
Police personnel were deployed in the area to control the law and order situation. A manhunt was launched to identify and arrest the accused. The police sent the body to Sadar hospital for the postmortem.
Barsoi SDPO Premnath Ram told TOI that the miscreants killed Mishra when he went outside his house. "The number of assailants could not be ascertained. Some eyewitnesses said they were two while some claimed their number was four and wearing masks.
