HYDERABAD: Cops cracked the theft of a cash bag containing Rs 30 lakh from a bus near Narketpally with the arrest of nine members of an interstate gang hailing from Uttar Pradesh. Nalgonda police recovered Rs 10 lakh from the accused who were sent to judicial remand on Monday.
On September 7, Chityal police of Nalgonda had re-registered the case based on the zero FIR transferred from Hayathnagar. The complainant, Ramoji Rao, a trader, said he lost the cash bag while travelling from Vijayawada to Hyderabad in a private bus.
Rao said that he had got down near Narketpally for breakfast and it was only after the bus resumed its journey and reached Hayathnagar that he realised the bag with the cash was missing.
Two special police teams verified CCTV footage and finally picked up the nine suspects from a hotel in Narketpally on Sunday.
Two of the suspects, Taj Muhammad and Sarfaraz Salmani, have a record of similar offences on buses in Telangana, TN, Karnataka and AP.
Nalgonda SP Rema Rajeshwari said that the duo, who spent nine months in prison, had recently formed a gang with their friends and relatives.
