Urban municipal polls: BJP to focus on wards it never won
Prayagraj: With an eye on improving its perfromance in upcoming urban municipal polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahanagar leadership is focusing on the wards that it had never won or lost with narrow margins.
For this, BJP workers are connecting with voters through online and offline modes, especially those whose names are still missing and making sincere efforts to induct more youngsters who completed 18 years of age.
While the Mahanagar BJP leadership is planning to give tickets to the loyals and winnable candidates to quell resentment among workers insiders, however, pointed out that party was also scanning the records of old candidates who had contested the polls in last three municipal polls and their fate.
“The party had managed to win only 22 out of 80 wards in 2017 urban municipal polls despite the fact that party’s mayoral candidate had registered its victory in more than 90% wards," said a senior party leader adding “This year, we have been focussing on wards especially those we lost marginally or those we had never won.”
With the theme of recording historic win in urban municipal polls, party leaders have this time chalked out separate strategy for different wards and aim to go all out to ensure a big win in all 100 wards.
“Hoping to improve its 2017 tally, party workers in all 10 mandals are currently focusing on registering more and more names of left voters in their respective wards that would help them in maintaining a respectable lead in upcoming urban civic polls,” said senior BJP leader Ashish Gupta. He added that the party also aims to work on micro-management at the booth level, apart from mobilisation of voters at several levels.
With an eye on Muslim dominated areas, BJP has activated its minority morcha to take party’s achievements and public welfare policies among the community.
The party has already started voters connect programme and campaign in every ward and also stressing the maximum use of social media platforms.
It is also eying those wards which have been traditional citadels of the rival camps like Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Party is also organising small events like felicitation of sanitary workers etc to connect with masses.
