BJP prison barb at Soren’s tweet
Ranchi: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s judgment in an illegal mining case against him and tweeted “Satyameva Jayate” (truth alone triumphs). However, the BJP leaders in the state said Soren will soon be addressed as a former chief minister and be in prison often like former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and its allies Congress and RJD welcomed the apex court’s ruling. “Today’s SC ruling has proved that this country cannot be governed by dictators. This is not the land of Kim Jong Un or Idi Amin but the land of Bhim Rao Ambedkar,” JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said. “Since 2010, the fascist forces are trying to portray Shibu Soren, his son and family members in bad light by continuously engaging in false propaganda. We had told the high court earlier this year that the charges brought against the CM were false and that fake papers were produced as evidence. But the honourable court disregarded our pleas,” he added.
Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha said the Apex Court’s ruling made it clear that the BJP was trying to falsely implicate the chief minister and destabilise the incumbent government.
BJP leader and former chief minister Babulal Marandi tweeted: “As per primary information gathered, the SC hearing was only concerned about the maintainability of the PIL. It will not have any bearing on the investigation on the ED’s unearthing of Rs 1,000 crore illegal mining scams in Jharkhand.”
BJP state president Deepak Prakash, who participated in the party’s ‘Akrosh March’ under Dumaria block of East Singhbhum, said, “This government has failed at every front. We will stop not until his government is removed.”
