Boy drowns in rainwater-filled pit in Tamil Nadu

CUDDALORE: A 12-year-old disabled boy drowned in a rainwater-filled pit in a village in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The pit was dug for road extension work.
The deceased has been identified as J Vinoth Kumar of Puthu Vilankulam near Vridhachalam.
Police said the boy, who discontinued his studies after Class IV, was playing near his house around 3.30pm on Tuesday. He slipped into a 10-foot-deep pit filled with rainwater and drowned.
Passersby noticed his body in the pit and recovered it and sent it to Mundiyampakkam Government Medical College Hospital in Villupuram.
The Mangalampettai police registered a case and began investigations.
