Karnataka: Brindavan Gardens closed for third time over leopard scare
MANDYA: Brindavan Gardens in KRS dam has been closed for the third time in two weeks as a leopard has been sighted again at the tourist spot. Though forest officials have launched a drive to nab the big cat, it has evaded them.
Surprisingly, the authorities are exposing the tourists to the leopard by allowing them to visit the site even when the leopard has not been nabbed and neither has it been driven away. The decision to open the Brindavan garden last week even before the leopard was captured has attracted criticism from the public and tourists.
As the leopard is still on the prowl, the dam will remain closed. A decision on reopening the tourist site will be taken only after a meeting with forest department officials, said Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited authorities.
The leopard was seen on a CCTV camera walking near the gate of Brindavan Garden at 6pm on Sunday. CNNL officials then asked the tourists present to leave, and entry was banned.
Later the forest officials checked the spot and placed another cage at the site. Totally three cages are placed at the terraced gardens to nab the elusive big cat. “From Sunday night, forest personnel are continuously monitoring the situation under the guidance of senior officials. We are trying to catch the leopard,” RFO Anitha said.
