CHENNAI: In a return to normalcy, TN board exams will begin on March 13, 2023, and be conducted for the full syllabus after two years of Covid cuts.
The school education department on Monday released the exam schedule for classes X, XI and XII.
More than 8.8 lakh students will write the Class XII board exams from March 13 to April 3 at 3,169 centres. Class XI exams will be held from March 14 to April 5 for 8.5 lakh students at 3,169 centres.
Class X exams will be conducted from April 6 to 20 for more than 10 lakh students at 3,986 centres.
Announcing that the exams would be conducted for the full syllabus, school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said, "Students should start preparing for the board exams without any fear."
Poyyamozhi said."We are confident about our teachers' abilities and expect better results this year."
When asked about
Tamil Nadu's slip in the performance grading index (PGI) for 2020-21 from level 2 to level 3, the minister said the index was released for the year before the DMK came to power. "We expect better results with implementation of several student friendly measures," he added.
Principals said students could have a tough time writing the full syllabus exam as they studied reduced syllabus last year. "We have completed 90% of the syllabus for Classes X and XII. We will revise the lessons from January. However, it would help students if the directorate of government examinations releases the weightage for each topic before the exams," said G J Manohar, principal of MCC Higher Secondary School, Chetpet.
"Students will struggle to prepare from 100% syllabus after clearing exams in truncated syllabus. Teachers might have to conduct special classes after class hours to train students this year," said P Perumalsamy, state president of the Tamil Nadu Post Graduate Teachers Association.
