Bathinda: After a day of low count, the crop residue burning again picked up pace in Punjab with the state registering 2,487 cases on Monday, taking the total tally to 32,486.
On Sunday, only 599 stubble burning cases were recorded – the lowest in a fortnight. Against 2,487 cases on Monday, 4,716 cases were reported on the same day in 2020, while 5,199 cases were registered on the same day in 2021.

In comparison to 32,486 crop residue burning cases in the ongoing season so far, 57,696 cases were registered in 2020, while 37,933 cases were reported in 2021.
Four districts reported over 100 stubble burning cases each, while five districts reported over 200 burning cases each. Ferozepur district reported a maximum of 353 cases on Monday.
Out of 32,486 cases so far this season, 4,545 cases have been reported from Sangrur, while 3,032 cases have been reported from Patiala.
Tarn Taran registered 2,973 burning cases followed by Ferozepur (2,788), Bathinda (2,415), Barnala (1,849), Mansa (1,641), Ludhiana (1,501), Moga (1,460), Amritsar (1,452), Muktsar (1,385), Faridkot (1,193), Kapurthala (1,184), Jalandhar (1,116), Fatehgarh Sahib (1,035), Gurdaspur (825), Fazilka (799), Malerkotla (480), Hoshiarpur (237), Roopnagar (220), SBS Nagar (198) and SAS Nagar (158). Over 154 lakh metric tonne paddy has arrived in Punjab mandis so far and the government is expected to procure 190 lakh MT paddy during the ongoing season, sources said.
