VARANASI: Azamgarh police arrested six persons for raising pro-Pakistan slogans in a march taken out by a group of people carrying Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) flags.
SP Azamgarh Anurag Arya said, “A viral video containing objectionable sloganeering by a group of people had come to light on November 4. After examining it, the police initially took Pappu Khan and Khurshid of Jahanaganj under custody for interrogation.
After further investigation an FIR was lodged by Jahanganj police under section 153a (promoting disharmony) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC against eight persons followed by arrest of Pappu Khan, Mod Afzal, Khurshid, Maqsood Alam, Abdul Waris and Juber Ahmed.”
Initial investigation revealed that Pappu Khan is preparing to contest the forthcoming election of chairman of Jahanaganj Nagar Panchayat. As a part of his campaigning, he, with his supporters, had been carrying out a march. The video, which has been sent for forensic test, showed that during the march in Jahanaganj township Pappu’s supporters were carrying BSP flag.
Police said that Khurshid led sloganeering in favour of Pappu Khan. During the same march, Khurshid and other supporters also started raising slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, showed the video. It was also found that the march was carried out without taking permission from the district administration despite promulgation of prohibitory orders under section 144.
