CHENNAI/PUDUCHERRY: Fresh cases of Covid-19 dropped to 109 in
Tamil Nadu on Monday compared to 114 on Sunday, 119 on Saturday and 123 new cases on Friday. After discharging 191 Covid-19 patients from the state registry the active cases fell below the 1000-mark on Monday. The cumulative death tally since March 2020 was 38,048.
Chennai (27) continued to report the maximum number of new cases in the state, followed by Kanyakumari (11) and Chengalpet (10).
Salem reported eight new cases followed by six in Coimbatore at 5 cases each in Krishnagiri and Villupuram.
While Kancheepuram and Virudhunagar reported four new cases each Tiruvallur and Tirupur had three cases each.
Of the 973 active cases, there were 227 in Chennai, 64 in Coimbatore and 68 in Chengalpet.
Among the active patients 218 were admitted to hospitals across the state 81 of them were in oxygen beds, 28 in the ICU and 109 in the wards.
Meanwhile, the Union territory of Puducherry did not report even a single Fresh Covid-19 case for the last 24 hours ending at 10am on Monday. All the 144 samples tested on Monday returned negative for the infection.
Five patients recovered from the infection bringing down the total number of active cases to 57 on Monday. All active cases are under home isolation and treatment.
Puducherry has the maximum number of active cases with 47 followed by Karaikal and Yanam with five each. Mahe continues to be a Covid-19 infection-free region.
The territory did not report a Covid-19 death and the death toll remained at 1,975. The fatality rate of the infection in the territory remained at 1.1%.
