Three police teams probe ex-IB officer’s murder
Mysuru: Two days after the murder of retired Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer RN Kulkarni, 81, the city police have formed three special teams to investigate the case.
Kulkarni was found badly injured inside Manasagangotri, the PG campus of the University of Mysore, after he was hit by an unknown vehicle on Friday evening. Police are looking for the motive for the crime. They are scanning for cell phone call records and CCTV footage.
He was found lying in a pool of blood near the department of studies in biochemistry, located at a secluded place inside the 300-acres campus.
City police commissioner Chandragupta said, “We are now trying to find the vehicle which hit the victim. We are also collecting details including if there are any suspects, and motives for the crime.”
Sources said three persons are being questioned in the case. They are from Mysuru and knew Kulkarni. The former Union government official had objected to violation of building by-laws at an under-construction house in Sharada Devi Nagar and had launched a fight. Police believe it could be the motive for the crime, sources said. Kulkarni has told his family members and friends about it, sources said.
Walkers banned from Manasagangotri
The University of Mysore (UoM) on Sunday said it has banned walking and jogging inside the Manasagangotri campus for outsiders. Fearing that entry of unknown persons may cause problems including illegal activities, the UoM syndicate decided not to allow walking and jogging inside its campus.
According to UoM sources, henceforth only teaching and non-teaching staff and students with ID cards will be allowed to jog inside the campus. A decision in this regard was taken unanimously by the syndicate, said registrar R Shivappa. Kukkarahalli lake will be open for the public, he said.
According to UoM officials, no university in the country is allowing the public to use the campus for jogging or walking. Around 1,000 people, mostly senior citizens, use the campus for walking and jogging. According to officials, in the name of jogging, unknown people were also visiting the campus.
