PUNE: The Yerawada police are searching for two unidentified motorcycle riders for stabbing an autorickshaw driver, Akshay Ishwar Chavan (24) of Yerawada, at Shashtrinagar on Pune-Ahmednagar highway, after he had resisted the duo's attempt to snatching his smartphone at 6pm on November 2.
According to the police, Chavan suffered deep cuts on his stomach and back. He was admitted to a private hospital. After recovering, he lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday.
Sub-inspector Ankush Dombale of the Yerawada police told TOI, "Chavan was waiting for customers at the chowk when two men on a black motorcycle came close to the auto. Chavan had kept his mobile on the dashboard of the vehicle. The pillion put his hands inside to steal the mobile, however, Chavan grabbed his hand and raised an alarm."
The officer said, "Chavan then resisted, and the duo pulled a sharp weapon and assaulted him. He sustained deep cuts on his back and stomach. He is out of danger."
"We are studying the CCTV cameras of the chowk and different spots on the road to ascertain the identity of the two men," Dombale said.
