Cachar man kills stepmom over land dispute

SILCHAR: A man was on Sunday arrested for allegedly killing his stepmother over a land dispute in a village in Cachar district.
Police said Sekul Islam Barbhuiya (35) and his stepmother, Ashma Khatun Barbhuiya (65), were having a heated argument over a land dispute when Sekul, in a fit of rage, hit her with an axe killing her on the spot. The incident took place at Niz Bihara village under the Karigorah police station area of Cachar district.
When other members of the family rushed to stop him, Sekul attacked three others, including a woman. The neighbours immediately informed police about the matter.
While the body of Ashma Khatun was sent to Silchar Medical Collage and Hospital for autopsy, the injured persons were admitted to Kalain government hospital, the police official said.
Sekul is being interrogated, the official added.
