Chennai: Food delivery agent who stole pet dog arrested

CHENNAI: Police on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old food delivery agent who stole a pet dog from a house at Saligramam where he went carrying an order from a restaurant for a resident. The man, who police identified as Sujith, was found to be a previous offender involved in stealing bikes. A court later sent him to jail.
On Friday, police said, Thillaikarasi, 41, of Ambedkar Street found her pet beagle, which she had bought for ₹30,000 missing from her home. She had let the animal out for some time.
Thillaikarasi who searched for her dog then checked CCTV camera footage and found the food delivery agent who came to her house taking away her pet. She analysed her call record details, found his phone number and called him, saying she wanted to give him a tip. She also lodged a complaint with the Virugambakkam police.
A police team which lay in wait nabbed Sujith who came to the spot. Police recovered the dog and during questioning of the man found that he had planned to sell the dog and had contacted a few friends. He also posted an ad on social media platforms. Sujith confessed to police that he had been involved in bike thefts, saying he would randomly take away bikes from some of the homes where he went to deliver food.
