DPS Kalyanpur wins one-day school chess championship

Kanpur: DPS Kalyanpur emerged as champion with the highest 42.5 points in one-day school chess championship organized by the Allen House Public School Panki in collaboration with the District Chess Association on Saturday.
Virendra Swarup N block Kidwai Nagar and Harmilap Mission stood at second and third place holders with 39.5 and 37 points respectively.

As many 265 players of 36 schools participated while around 307 players of 42 schools had confirmed their entry in the meet. Players from Jhansi, Allahabad and Lucknow also participated in the event. As per record, 147 boys and 118 girls used their brains in the six round event. Himani (Sheiling House) Dhairya (Sheiling House) Tanmay (Shri Ram School Panki) and Shivansh Rathore (Allen House Panki) were felicitated with special prizes. Richa Prakash, principal of the host school, gave away trophies and certificates to the winners. Earlier ,Harish Rastogi, chief arbiter, had inaugurated the meet.

District Football League: IIT drubbed Halim Sporting by 3-0 in the inaugural match of the District Football League held at DPS Azad Nagar ground on Sunday. Before the match, chief guest Indra Mohan Rohatgi inaugurated the event. Sunil Khanna, chairman, District Football Association welcomed the guestsAccording to Ajeet Singh, secretary, District Football Association, the district team will be selected on the basis of performances in the league. Asif Iqbal, Sunil Kumar, Raj Kumar and DB Thapa were present as selectors.
