Prayagraj: The
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going all out to ensure a big win in the upcoming urban civic polls this year by focusing on wards which have not been the party’s strongholds and targeting all community votebank which have not traditionally been BJP supporters.
Hoping to improve its digit tally it recorded in the 2017 urban municipal polls, Mahanagar BJP leadership claimed the party is targeting to win across all 100 wards. For this, micro-management at the booth level is being worked out, apart from mobilisation of voters at several levels.
BJP spokesman Rajesh Kesarwani admitted to TOI, “The party has prioritised the wards where it could not register a win historically and working overtime to expand its influence in such wards particularly located in Muslim dominated localities.”
He added “There are a total of 22-odd wards where party could never make much of a dent so far. Now, those wards are being given extra attention,” he added.
Co-convener (Kashi prant- BJP NGO cell) Rajni Kant says, “One of the perceptible impact of the party’s ‘advantage’ is visible when people of all communities, including Muslims are connecting with party after being influenced by the public welfare policies of BJP led union and state governments.”
He added, “We have been taking up voters connect programme and campaign in each and every ward and also taking the names of left voters into the district electrical list.”
Moreover, party is also eying those wards which have been traditional citadels of the rival camps like Congress,
Samajwadi Party (SP) and
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
In 2017 urban municipal polls, the BJP had registered its triumph on 22 out of 80 wards and later, 15 more corporators from other camps joined the saffron camp.
However, the Mahanagar party leadership have activated its cadre, setting up new IT and social media cells in all three urban-based assembly seats including Allahabad North, Allahabad South and Allahabad West to aim to connect tech savvy voters. Senior BJP leader, Ashish Gupta, meanwhile, said “ This year,we have also been focussing to correct anomalies in voters list in all 10mandals ahead of municipal polls on priroty basis. He added a team of activeparty workers has been asked to coordinate with BLO ( Booth Level Officer) of respectiveareas and wards to get the names of left persons added.
