MUNUGODE: TRS' victory, on Sunday, failed to bring much cheer to the electorate of Lenkalapally - the village KCR was in charge of for the by-poll. Though several TRS leaders had made it their home for the last 30 days, there appeared to be a sharp divide in the reaction of locals. Many claimed that TRS managed to sail through because of support from the elderly population.
Villagers hoped that the party would take up some development work in Lenkalapally, at least now. "In the past month, our village received huge publicity as the chief minister was overseeing election campaigning here. I just hope he doesn't forget our village now that his party has won, and ensures that we have proper roads, streetlights, among other basic facilities," said 23-year-old Vinay P, a graduate from the village ruing how the village has barely seen infrastructure growth in past years.
Though Narasimha Jallakula (70) who is from Sarampet, adjacent to Lenkalapally, is a self-confessed TRS supporter, he also urged the CM to not give up on the Dindi reservoir work and complete it soon. "We thought, if any other party came to power, the work could get delayed. Let's hope TRS won't do so," he added.
In the past month, everything was available for free, including three meals a day, villagers recalled. The unemployed youth of Lenkalapally said the freebies don't take away from the fact that the Telangana government has failed them by not issuing job notifications for years.
