Buoyed BJP says NDA will win all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar
Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai with other BJP leaders after party won the Gopalganj assembly by-elections.
PATNA: As the outcome of the byelections to the Gopalganj and Mokama assembly seats show, the state politics has got polarised between the seven-party grand alliance and the BJP that is also in the process of seeking allies to forge the NDA.
This, in turn, is the new trend that has been thrown up, marking the emergence of a new political phenomenon, after CM Nitish Kumar dumped the BJP three months ago and formed the government of the grand alliance comprising seven parties – JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPI(ML), CPI, CPM and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular).
In fact, the house of the BJP felt buoyed up by the emerging scenario. A battery of its senior functionaries – Union minister Nityanand Rai, leader of opposition in the state assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha and leader of opposition in the legislative council as well as former minister Jiwesh Mishra, MLC Dewesh Kumar and former MLA Mithilesh Tiwary – stressed before media persons the new “political landscape” underlined by polarisation of voters that had become tangible.
In the backdrop of the emerging polarisation, they said the BJP-led NDA would win all the 40 parliamentary seats in the state in 2024, and form the state government after the 2025 assembly elections.
Equally significantly, the smaller political parties in the fray – like the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and AIMIM in Gopalganj – played spoilsport to the RJD by cutting into its vote bank.
Among other smaller parties, the two factions of the old Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), led separately by Union minister Pashupati Kumar Paras and his nephew Chirag Paswan, also worked for the BJP. Union minister Rai admitted it, insisting that the two LJP factions were NDA allies.
