Reservation: SC-ST seers to be feted tomorrow

Mysuru: Former mayor and BSP leader Purushottam on Sunday said the district committee members of Karnataka Rajya Swabhimani SC- ST Sanghatanegala Okkuta will felicitate various community seers and pontiffs who worked directly and indirectly to increase reservation limit for SC - STs on Tuesday.
He told reporters here that various seers including Valmiki Gurupeetha Prasannanandapuri Swami, Urilingi Peddi Mutt Jnanaprakash Swami and other SC-ST community pontiffs waged a long battle to prevail upon the state government to increase the reservation for SCs from 15% to 17% per cent and for STs from 3% to 7%.
Bowing to the padayatra and year-long indefinite strike by the pontiffs at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, the state government announced to increase the reservation based on the recommendations of Justice Nagamohandas Commission.
The programme will begin at 10am on Tuesday. A workshop on various grievances of SC-ST communities will be held and Various writers and leaders will take part during the programme, he said.
