CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Sunday claimed to have released the minimum support price (MSP) payment of Rs 5,334.54 croreinto the accounts of 1.84 lakh farmers in a single day.
Punjab food civil supplies and consumer affairs minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said the payment was made on Saturday and another Rs 1,500 crore had been approved for payment and would be released once the banks open on Monday. He also said 144 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) paddy had already been purchased in the procurement season till Saturday.
Giving details on the MSP payments, the minister said the total MSP payments of Rs 25,424.86 crore had been released directly in the bank accounts of farmers till Saturday, and nearly 6.5 lakh farmers benefited from the MSP so far. He reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to purchase every single grain produced by the farmers.
