Munugode

The bypolls, results for which started trickling out on Sunday morning, threw no surprises, except for the fact that BJP gave a tough fight to TRS candidate in the Munugode assembly segment in Telangana.

The two key rivals for the Munugode bypoll were locked in a neck and neck battle after four rounds of counting of votes.

After the fourth round of counting, the TRS candidate has polled 26,443 votes while BJP candidate was behind with 25, 729 votes.

It may be recalled that BJP top leadership has lately shifted its focus to Telangana in a bid to make inroads into the southern state. It left no stone unturned during the campaigning phase.

The bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of sitting MLA Rajgopal Reddy from the Congress. He contested on BJP ticket in the bypoll.  The counting would be completed in 15 rounds at 21 tables. The TRS is also leading in postal.  TRS got 228 votes and BJP got 224 votes in postal ballots.

The victory of TRS candidate in the bypoll may help the pink party to expand Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) across the country.  The BJP may redraw its plans to expand the saffron party in Telangana with an aim to come to power in 2023 Assembly elections.

Dhamnagar

Counting of votes for by-poll to the Dhamnagar Assembly Constituency in Odisha's Bhadrak district is underway amid tight security, an election official said.

BJP candidate Suryabanshi Suraj registered a lead over his BJD rival Abanti Das by 3,261 votes after the initial rounds of counting of votes for Dhamnagar bypolls in Odisha's Bhadrak district, Election Commission (EC) trends revealed on Sunday.

Gola Gokarannath

Meanwhile, BJP candidate Aman Giri has taken a comfortable lead of about 25,000 votes over his nearest rival as counting of votes progressed in the Gola Gokarannath assembly bypolls on Sunday.

While Giri has got 73,371 votes so far, Samajwadi Party's Vinay Tiwari got 48,739 votes, officials said after the 18th round of counting.

Counting started here at 8 am amid tight security arrangements. Returning Officer Anurag Singh said the counting is likely to be held in 32 rounds.

The November 3 Gokarannath assembly bypolls recorded a polling percentage of 57.35 per cent. Seven contestants were in the fray.

The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of BJP MLA Arvind Giri on September 6. The BSP and the Congress kept away from the poll this time.

The main contest was between BJP's Aman Giri, the son of Arvind Giri, and SP candidate and former Gola Gokarannath MLA Tiwari. The BJP's campaign was led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Gola Gokarannath is part of Union minister Ajay Mishra's Lakhimpur Kheri parliamentary constituency. Mishra has been in the eye of a storm following the killing of four farmers during violence in October last year. His son is an accused in the case.

Andheri (East)

Andheri saw Rutuja Latke, the candidate of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), established a comfortable lead after the first round of counting on Sunday for the byelection to Andheri (East) Assembly seat in Mumbai.

Latke polled 4,277 votes out of the 5,624 votes counted so far, an official said.

At the end of the first round of counting, 622 votes were cast in favour of the None of the Above (NOTA) option, which was more than the number of votes polled by each of the six other independent candidates in fray.

The counting of votes began at 8 am on Sunday at a civic-run school in Mumbai. As many as 200 officials were involved in the counting process.

The Mumbai Police have deputed 300 personnel to maintain law and order, according to an official statement.

Voting for the by-election, necessitated due to the death of sitting Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke in May this year, was held on November 3 and witnessed a low voter turnout of 31.74 per cent.

Rutuja Latke, the wife of Ramesh Latke, is expected to win comfortably after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew its nominee from the byelection.

This is the first electoral contest in Maharashtra after the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government collapsed in June following a revolt by a section of Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde.

Shinde subsequently became chief minister in an alliance with the BJP. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress, both constituents of the MVA, have supported Rutuja Latke's candidature.

Adampur

At Adampur, BJP candidate Bhavya Bishnoi has taken a lead in the initial round of counting of votes on Sunday in the Assembly bypoll.

Bishnoi is leading by a margin of 2,832 votes from his nearest rival and Congress candidate Jai Prakash, according to initial trends.

Counting of votes for the bypoll to Adampur assembly segment in Haryana began amid tight security arrangements.

Mokama and Gopalganj

In the Mokama constituency, RJD has established a lead , while the BJP is ahead in Gopalganj, Election Commission trends revealed after initial rounds of vote counting on Sunday.

In Mokama, Neelam Devi of the RJD is ahead of BJP's Sonam Devi by 12,152 votes.

Kusum Devi of the BJP has taken a lead over Mohan Prasad Gupta of the RJD by 637 votes, EC trends around 11.15 showed.

Of the 6.10 lakh voters -- Gopalganj (3.31 lakh) and Mokama (2.70 lakh)  52.3 per cent had exercised their franchise in the two seats on November 3, he said.

A total of 619 polling booths were set up in the two constituencies. Fifteen candidates are in the fray -- nine in Gopalganj and six in Mokama.

This is the first electoral face-off between the ruling Grand Alliance (GA) and the opposition BJP in Bihar after the change of government in August this year, when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's party JD-U snapped ties with the saffron party and aligned with Lalu Prasad's RJD-led coalition, comprising Congress and other parties, to form a new government.

The Mokama seat fell vacant following the disqualification of RJD MLA Anant Singh after his conviction in an Arms Act case, while the by-election in Gopalganj was necessitated following the death of sitting BJP MLA Subhash Singh.

BJP leader Kusum Devi, wife of the deceased MLA, is pitted against RJD's Mohan Gupta in Gopalganj.

In Mokama, BJP nominee Sonam Devi is up against RJD's Neelam Devi, the wife of Anant Singh. Mokama has been the stronghold of Anant Singh since 2005. He won the seat twice on JD(U) tickets.

Singh fought as an RJD candidate in the 2020 elections and retained the seat. But he was disqualified from the assembly following his conviction in the criminal case.
