Thiruvananthapuram: Tension erupted in the corporation main office following the letter controversy on Saturday.
As per the letter in the official letterhead of the mayor, priority list is sought from CPM district secretary for appointment to 295 vacancies with the health wing on a daily wage basis.
Deputy mayor P K Raju and
BJP councillor Karamana Ajith had to be shifted to hospital following the protest. Museum police also registered a case against 27 BJP councillors.
The councillors who protested at the main office were arrested and removed by the police. Soon after the letter issue ballooned into a controversy, Youth Congress workers, UDF and BJP councillors and women wing stormed the main office and staged protests shouting slogans against the mayor. The protesters also tried to block the way of K Raju, who eventually made his way through the melee to his office. However, he developed uneasiness and he had to be shifted to hospital.
Raju alleged that his clothes were torn apart and he was physically assaulted by the protesters.
BJP councillors said that they would intensify protest against the mayor. The mayor is expected to hold a press meet on Sunday. The BJP and Congress are set to launch collective protests on the issue.
