JHANSI: "Time has come that we have to make
UP self- reliant in Agri production. We already top in milk production while contributing 37% of wheat and 7% of vegetable production of the country", said state agriculture minister Surya Prakash Shahi during the closing ceremony of the three-days farmer fair at the Agriculture and Research University in Banda on Saturday.
Shahi said that in Bundelkhand it is necessary to improve the breed of the local cows while enhancing their breeding which will help in producing better quality milk. He also said that farm pond scheme here will not only help in conserving water but will also help in developing fisheries giving added income.
While advocating for adopting traditional organic farming, Shahi said, "In UP we can become 'Atmanirbhar' through farming and for this agriculture university can prove to be a boon, providing latest technologies". He also advocated for promoting production of various grains suitable to the weather of Bundelkhand and producing fruits and other horticulture products.
Earlier to this while welcoming the guests, Vice Chancellor, Prof NP Singh informed about a host of research activities in the field of agriculture taking into consideration the extreme climatic conditions of the region and rapid change in the environment that the university is carrying out while extending its benefits to the regional farmers.
