LUCKNOW: The Allahabad unit of Enforcement Directorate (ED) got seven-day police custody remand of MLA Abbas Ansari, son of mafioso-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, on Saturday.
Abbas, a sitting MLA from Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) from Mau, was arrested by ED in connection with PMLA case late Friday.
He was produced in the session's court of Prayagraj on Saturday at around 1 pm in the presence of heavy security. District and Sessions Judge Allahabad Santosh Rai approved the custody remand of Abbas from 5 pm on November 5 till 2pm on November 12.
Abbas' counsel had appealed to make elaborate security arrangements and that the ED should interrogate him in the presence of his lawyer.
The court allowed the plea but also warned that there should be no interference in the interrogation.
Abbas' lawyers had strongly opposed the custody remand, but ED said it was necessary to question the MLA for which they need at least two weeks' time. The ED also said Abbas may have to be taken to Ghazipur, Mau and other places so the custody remand was necessary.
Two applications were presented in the court on Saturday on behalf of Ansari.
The ED had arrested Abbas after he failed to turn
up before the agency despite repeated notices and summons.
A look-out circular was also issued by the ED against Abbas last month.
