GURUGRAM: A 58-year-old woman died while five others, including two kids, were injured after a tractor trolley speeding down the wrong side hurtled into their bike on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) near Sultanpur toll plaza on Friday evening.
The six members of the same family were riding on a Splendor from Nuh's Babupur village to Jhajjar to meet their relatives when the tragedy occurred, police said.
The deceased was identified as Baskar. Those injured are Baskar's 21-year-old son Robin, who was driving the bike, his 23-year-old sister Arfina, his 19-year-old wife Asifa, and their two minor sons, Abuzar (2) and Riyaz (3), respectively. In her police complaint, Arfina claimed that just 200-300 metres ahead of the Sultanpur toll plaza, they spotted the speeding tractor trolley being driven on the wrong side.
“The tractor trolley soon hit our bike and all of us fell off the two-wheeler. Instead of stopping, the driver mowed down my mother and sped away,” she told the cops.
Locals rushed the six to the nearby SGT Hospital, where doctors declared Baskar dead on arrival. The five injured have been discharged after first aid.
"We got information that six people on one bike met with an accident. Later, we got information from SGT Hospital that one died and other five people sustained minor injuries," Jitender Kumar, SHO of Farrukhnagar police station, said.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against the tractor trolley driver under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304A (whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act) and 337 (whoever causes hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“We are also checking the CCTV footage of the toll plaza to identify and nab the errant driver. We will also initiate a case against the biker for flouting the Motor Vehicles Act,” the SHO said.
