Kerala: Murder accused Greeshma's house, sealed by cops, found broken into
The break-in at Greeshma’s house has raised suspicion that efforts are being made to destroy evidence at the crime scene to sabotage the case
T'PURAM: The house of Greeshma, the prime accused in the murder of Sharon Raj was found broken open on Saturday. The development has raised suspicion that efforts are being made to destroy evidence at the crime scene to sabotage the case.
Investigating officers said the break-in at the house in Ramavarmanchira near Karakonam will not affect the case in any manner but said they see it as a deliberate attempt to disrupt the probe.
Greehma's house was sealed by the special investigation team of the district crime branch after the agency took over the probe and it is planning to bring her to the house for evidence collection on Monday.
Following the incident, a team of Kerala and Tamil Nadu police have inspected the house and ramped up security measures at the locality.
"There was no evidence to be collected from the house. We have to prepare only a 'Scene Mahazar' which provides details of the scenes of crime. The break-in was not related to robbery. It was a clear attempt to destroy evidence. But we have already collected enough evidence and it will not affect the probe," said Johnson KJ, DSP of rural crime branch.
However, another officer said the utensil in which Greeshma allegedly mixed the ayurveda medicine (Kashayam) with the pesticide to kill Sharon was there in the kitchen at her home but added that it has not gone missing after the break-in. The probe team was planning to seize the utensil when they bring Greeshma for evidence collection.
Meanwhile, Greeshma, her mother Sindhu and uncle Nirmal Kumar were questioned by the probe team on Saturday.
The state government has sought a legal opinion from the advocate general about transferring the case to Tamil Nadu police as the crime took place in their jurisdiction.
Earlier, the parents of Sharon Raj had requested the chief minister not to transfer the case to Tamil Nadu saying that the case may be scuppered if it is transferred to the neighbouring state.
Sharon Raj (23), son of Jayaraj of JP House at Muryankara at Kodavilkama, in Parassala, was allegedly offered an ayurveda medicine laced with pesticide by Greeshma on October 14 when he came to visit her at her home. He died on October 25 after his internal organs failed functioning.
