Varanasi: The
Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) has organised a four-day alumni meet of the 1982 batch students, which began on Thursday, and will continue till Sunday.
Nearly 60 alumni from different departments are participating in this programme along with their spouses.
The meet is also attended by Ramesh Srinivasan, president & CEO Agilysys (Nasdaq: AGYS), USA) who contributed USD 1.3 million dollars (approximately Rs.9.5 crores) to the Student Activity Center (Sports Complex) in September 2021.
The dean, Resource and Alumnus, Prof. Rajiv Srivastava said that all the alumni played friendly cricket with the current students at Kings Pavilion Gymkhana Ground on Saturday.
On Sunday they will visit ghats and temples in the city. Earlier on Friday, a welcome ceremony was organized at Ramesh Srinivasan Student Activity Center.
Srinivasan also inaugurated several facilities of the sports centre on the occasion.
IIT(BHU) director, Prof. Pramod Kumar Jain said that the student activity centre provided world class indoor sports facilities which include gym, squash courts,
badminton courts, table tennis courts and various activities including Taekwondo, Boxing, Yoga, Carrom and Chess. After the visit, all the alumni along with the director visited the newly constructed Dhanrajgiri-II Hostel and their respective departments.
Earlier, the director hosted a dinner for the alumni and their spouses on November 3.
An interaction programme was organized with the alumni and the authorities of the institute on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, the director said that alumni of Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University are excelling in their chosen field and their support to their alma mater plays a very vital role in the overall development of the Institute. On this occasion, the director presented the Distinguished Alumnus Award-Year 2022-23 to Ramesh Srinivasan under profession category.
