Jharkhand: Team to probe baby's roadside birth
HAZARIBAG: Deputy commissioner Nancy Sahay has set up a two-member committee to probe the delivery of a baby and its dead on Monday soon after its delivery by the mother on the road outside the female ward of the Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital.
The woman and her family had alleged that she didn't get timely admission as all hospital management staff then busy hosting the state health secretary, Arun Kumar Singh, who was on an inspection visit.
The hospital authorities had initially claimed that the woman probably delivered a stillborn and she was later admitted to the hospital for treatment. However, the incident raised a question mark over the lack of accountability of the hospital.
Hazaribag MLA Manish Jaiswal, too, alleged that it was the negligence of the hospital and demanded action against the erring officials.
Talking to TOI, Sahay said, "I have appointed a two-member committee to probe the entire incident and submit the report within a week for further action."
The hospital's superintendent, Dr Binod Kumar, had then said the woman probably delivered a stillborn. However, the Hazaribag MLA rubbished the claim stating that the baby was alive but died after the baby sustained an injury on the head after falling on the road when the woman delivered.
