Assembly Bypoll Results Live Updates: Counting of votes is underway in the byelection to seven assembly constituencies in six states, including former chief minister Bhajan Lal’s family bastion Admapur in Haryana. Bhajan Lal’s grandson Bhavya Bishnoi, who contested on a BJP ticket, and RJD’s Neelam Devi, whose husband Anant Singh’s disqualification necessitated the byelection in Bihar’s Mokama, are among the prominent candidates in the fray. The other constituencies where results of the November 3 bypolls will be out were Gopalganj in Bihar, Andheri (East) of Maharashtra, Munugode of Telangana, Gola Gokarannath of Uttar Pradesh, and Dhamnagar of Odisha.
Most seats witnessed a fierce contest between the BJP and regional parties such as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Samajwadi Party (SP), and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Among the seven seats where bypolls were held, the BJP held three seats and the Congress two, while the Shiv Sena and the RJD had one each.
The bypoll in Adampur was necessitated after former sitting MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi resigned from the Vidhan Sabha in August to switch from the Congress to the BJP. Andheri East contest was held due to the untimely death of Sena MLA Ramesh Latke. The Mokama seat, in Bihar, fell vacant after Anant Singh, the sitting MLA, was dismissed due to a conviction in a criminal case. The contest in Gopalganj, also in Bihar, was necessitated due to the death of sitting BJP MLA Subhash Singh. Munugode witnessed a bypoll after sitting MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy resigned on August 2. The bypoll was necessitated in Gola Gokarannath Assembly seat of Lakhimpur Kheri district following the death of sitting MLA Arvind Giri, while Dhamnagar seat fell vacant due to the untimely demise of sitting BJP MLA Bishnu Charan Das.
Hours before the commencement of the counting of votes, BJP candidate in Adampur constituency Bhavya Bishnoi said: "This poll wasn't about winning or losing, but about victory margin. With the blessings I received from my Adampur family since the beginning, I am confident that people will once again celebrate Diwali within a few hours." (ANI)
The counting of votes for the Andheri (East) byelection began on Sunday morning at a civic-run school in Mumbai.
A total of seven candidates, including the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction’s Rutuja Latke, are in the fray. The bypoll, which was necessitated after the sudden demise of Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke in May this year, is significant for the Thackeray-led Sena as it is the first election after the split in the party following a rebellion spearheaded by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other MLAs.
This is also the first time that the Sena is contesting an election with the support of its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies, the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The bypoll is also a litmus test for the MVA as an alliance.
Seven candidates are in the fray for this byelection -- Rituja Ramesh Latke (Shiv Sena - Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Bala Venkatesh Vinayak Nadar (Aapki Apni Party - People's), Manoj Nayak (Right to Recall Party), Neena Khedekar (Independent), Farhana Siraj Syed (Independent), Milind Kamble (Independent), and Rajesh Tripathi (Independent).
