West Bengal: 2 held for Rs 32 crore online fraud during pandemic

KOLKATA/ASANSOL: The Electronic Complex Police have arrested two persons for allegedly using apps and other online methods during the pandemic to defraud a few thousand small investors of around Rs 32 crore. Most of the victims are from Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and Hooghly.
The police said the accused — Swarnendu Jana and Sudipta Jana — were arrested from their Sector V office. The duo had taken the help of multiple agents and sub-agents to raise money. The first complainant in the case said he had lost Rs 4 lakh in the past one year. Defence lawyers have refuted the allegation in court.
Complainant Rakesh Singh and cops said the accused hailed from Tarakeswar.
