Modi & KCR have no time for farmers, students, says Rahul Gandhi

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said he has been interacting with thousands of farmers, youth, students, labourers, employees, women and other sections of society during his Bharat Jodo Yatra and none of them seemed to be happy with the TRS and BJP governments in Telangana and at the Centre. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were not listening to the voice of these sections and also did not bother about the agriculture sector, he said while addressing a street-corner meeting at Peddapur in Andole. “Some farmers walked with me. They explained to me the poor condition of farmers in state. Instead of listening to their voice, KCR is trying to santch away their land by misusing Dharani web portal. On the other hand, Modi is trying to sell the country to his rich corporate friends,” Rahul Gandhi said. The Wayanad MP invited one of the progressive farmers, Nagi Reddy, to tell the gathering about their plight. In his brief speech, Nagi Reddy said the Congress government used to give 100% subsidy to poor SC/ST farmers and 90% subsidy to small farmers with less than five-acre land on dripplers, sprinklers and 50% subsidy to big farmers, Nagi Reddy said.

Turncoats worked on the sly for Congress?

After losing every byelection post-2018 assembly elections, Congress is keeping its fingers crossed in the Munugode bypoll, the result of which will be announced on Sunday. Congress candidate Palvai Sravanthi had covered almost every village of the constituency in her campaign. Though Congress leaders campaigned in every mandal, the party is banking on getting a huge chunk of votes from Chandur and Samsthan Narayanpur, which also has the traditional vote bank of the grand old party. Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy had extensively campaigned in Samsthan Narayanpur mandal by holding road shows.

High stakes Munugode poll result today, parties on edge

When the votes are counted for the Munugode by-election on Sunday, the result will hopefully answer some key questions. Is the BJP’s aggression in Telangana and its hopes of expanding its presence in southern India on a firm footing? Will TRS be able to ward off antiincumbency and re-establish its dominance on Telangana’s political landscape? The winner of this crucial electoral contest will claim to be the leading force ahead of the assembly poll next yearwhile the losers will have to go back to the drawing board and recalibrate plans for the future. Munugode has seen a rather gruelling campaign the past month with the three main players — TRS, BJP and Congress — pumping in all their resources in this smallassembly constituency of 2. 4 lakh voters. Allegations of bribing voters and attempts to poach MLAs have flown thick and fast.

Munugode may have been catapulted to the political centre stage with a high-stakes bypoll that triggered a mammoth turnout, but the assembly constituency always had a history of high polling.

06:31 (IST) Nov 06

Telangana chief electoral officer Vikas Raj said, "The last EVM arrived at the strong room at 1.30am and the door was sealed at 4.40am on Friday. Polling continued well past the scheduled time of 6pm with voters queuing up till late night at some booths."

06:30 (IST) Nov 06

Of the 2.42 lakh electors, around 2.25 lakh cast their vote in Munugode and eight booths in the constituency recorded 97 to 98% polling. Earlier, the highest turnout of 92% was recorded in Palair constituency in Khammam district of Telangana in the 2018 assembly elections.

The TRS and the BJP left no stone unturned to mobilise voters and the hype created around the fierce political battle triggered a mammoth turnout.

06:30 (IST) Nov 06

The surprise resignation of Congress’s Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy in August, this year and his defection to BJP necessitated the bypoll, polling for which was held on November 3.
