Silchar:
BJP legislator Dipayan Chakraborty has submitted a memorandum to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging him to ensure the safety and security of non-tribal people, especially the Bengali Hindus, in Meghalaya’s Shillong. The development came in the wake of a rally, recently held by a tribal organisation, turning violent, which left several members from the non-tribal communities injured.
The Silchar MLA on Friday stated in the memorandum that numerous incidents of attacks on non-tribal people, particularly Hindus, have taken place in the hill state over the years. He claimed that the aim behind the attacks was ethnic cleansing and genocide.
