GURUGRAM: A man who impersonated a police officer allegedly cheated his neighbour of Rs 2 lakh by promising to provide him an impounded vehicle, cops said on Saturday.
The complainant, Jasbir Singh, is a resident of Sector 45. He said a couple, Saurabh and his wife Shivani, became his neighbours a few months ago and they became good friends soon. “Saurabh told me that he works with the Haryana Police and can help me get a vehicle in good condition at cheap rates,” Jasbir said.
He further said when Saurabh offered to get him such a vehicle, he trusted him. They agreed that Jasbir would pay him Rs 2 lakh and Saurabh would help him get an impounded vehicle. After paying the amount, when Jasbir called him, the accused threatened him of dire consequences if he didn’t drop the matter.
Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered against Saurabh under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the Sector 40 police station on Friday.
