LUDHIANA: A 9-year-old boy from Ludhiana, Vivan Singh Bhogal, has become the youngest person in India to make a robot for defusing bombs. The device has been recognised by India Book of Records.
This robot could help the military and police to defuse bombs without risking lives.
Talking about robot’s functioning, Vivan said, “The robot will help cut the wires of the bomb and can be controlled remotely using a phone or laptop. It has a robotic arm attached with scissors. The 360-degree camera will help identify the correct wire and give proper instructions to the robot.”
Vivan is Class IV student at a city school. His father Jaswinder Singh Bhogal is into business of tractor parts and his mother is a homemaker.
Vivan has been interested in robotics since he was 4 years old. He had got inspiration to make a robot after hearing about a bomb incident at local courts and how experts risked their lives to defuse bombs in general.
Vivan’s mentor Dimple Verma said “Now, Vivan is planning to enhance quality of the robot. The size of the robot cab has been reduced besides installation of sensors for bomb detection. We will work on its compatibility to move on rugged surfaces too.”
Vivan’s father Jaswinder Singh Bhogal said, “Hands-on technology with experimental learning based on the concepts of science, mathematics and design thinking has been helping students in innovations.”
