Mysuru: Helplessness over his mounting financial woes allegedly compelled a 47-year-old government high school teacher to take his life in the night on Thursday. Shambulingu allegedly ended his life inside the garage of his home in Ramaswamy Layout in Nanjangud. The theft of his jewels by two thieves a month-and-a-half ago in September was one of the many incidents that plunged the victim, Shambulingu, in distress.
In the complaint that Shambulingu’s wife, Dakshayini has filed with Nanjangud police, she has accused her late husband’s friends for pushing him into a situation leading him to take such an extreme step. She has charged Shambulingu’s friends with failing to return money they had borrowed from him, which added to his financial burden.
Shambulingu, who taught at a government high-school in Kudlapura in Nanjangud, allegedly had a message delivered to one of his friends, informing him of his intention to end his life.
His prolonged absence from home left Dakshayini, her daughter, and other relatives worried, who started searching for him frantically. It was when the friend to whom Shambulingu had vouchsafed the message informing him of his intentions, arrived at the Ramaswamy Layout home that Dakshaynini, and others found him. They rushed Shambulingu to a private hospital, where he was declared dead.
In her complaint, Dakshayini has provided police a list of people whom she has accused of cheating her husband, by taking money they never returned. Dakshayini had, in September, been robbed by two thieves who came to the house in the garb of delivery employees, when she was alone. She said that the duo decamped with 170g of gold jewellery, and other valuables.
