No FIR yet in matter of pit in court lock-up
Jaipur: The city police are yet to register an FIR in the matter of the discovery of a four-feet-deep pit near a lock-up room at a Jaipur court even after four days.
ACP (Sadar) Sanjay Arya said on Friday that investigation into the case is on, but no case has been registered yet. Police suspect the pit could be a result of the old foundations of the lock-up room.
Guards at the lock-up room had discovered the pit that is over four feet deep on Monday morning. Senior police officers rushed to the scene, and the pit was quickly filled. Sources said police have not been able to ascertain who dug the pit and for what purpose.
A police official said that since no crime was committed and no foul play has been found, no case has been filed yet. However, the pit set alarm bells ringing about a possible plot by undertrials to dig their way out of police custody, though officials said the pit was too small for an inmate to crawl through to escape.
“The lock-up is situated in an area that bustles with lawyers and visitors to the court. It is impossible for anyone to just pop out of a pit and disappear. We are talking to people about the matter,” said a police official.
